We've Been Busy!

Sometimes it's so easy to get caught up in all of the day to day activities that it's hard to remember that you've actually had lots of fun doing things until you look back through your pictures.  At least that's how I seem to be right now.  Maybe it's pregnancy brain....  That is a very real and very frustrating condition associated with being pregnant!  Anyways, let's talk about what the Breneman's were up to in June!

We went to Costco, of course Olivia wanted everyone there to know how cute she looks in sunglasses.  She wore them the entire time, even while sampling ice cream.

After the ice cream, she was feeling tired from all that cuteness she has to maintain so she laid down in the cart.

We went to a wedding for a good friend of Nate's.  I really didn't take very many pictures at the wedding which is a bummer because it was beautiful!  Oh well, here's Olivia playing outside the Salt Lake temple while we waited for the bride and groom.

And here we are later at the reception.  Olivia loved these dangling orbs

And here is Olivia just right in her element.  Sitting on my bed, eating the shredded cheese.  There is no time for etiquette when there's cheese to be had!

Nate took me shopping because we figured it was time I admit that I'm pregnant and that I don't fit into my regular clothes like I often pretend I do....  Olivia made a bee line for this pink purse she found in the store and had a whole sleeve of bracelets on her arm until I made her put them back.  I let her wear the purse for a while though.  She LOVES purses and has been a little obsessed with wearing them whenever she can find one!  Her outfit was just complete when the stepped into these cute wedges.  My little stinker is definitely embracing her feminine side :)

This was after my 20 week ultrasound.  Nate had a meeting and ended up not being able to go with me so it was just Olivia there to see her baby sister on the screen.  Since I was such a good girl and held very still while they did my ultrasound, Olivia took me out to lunch on the way home.  She's such a thoughtful girl.

Olivia's big girl bed!  With a baby sister on the way, it's time for Olivia to adjust to some new sleeping arrangements.  There have been some definite struggles with this but overall she has been doing pretty great.  The biggest hardship is that because she can, she likes to get out of bed and do other things.  Of course, she eventually does get tired and fall asleep, but not always in her bed.  Silly girl.

I have more pictures from the last month but decided that those warrant blog posts of their own.  More posts coming soon!

Olivia at 18 Months

I took Olivia to her 18 month Dr. Appointment today. She passed with flying colors! I really love her pediatrician, I think it has a lot to do with him always telling me that I'm doing a great job with her.  Who doesn't love a good pat on the back?  It's especially reassuring to hear right now since Olivia is at a point where she fights me on everything! I'm not kidding, this 18 month old has got some teenagers beat with her attitude!

Here are her stats:
Weight-21.61 lbs (33%)
Height-30.25 in (7%) still a shortie!
Head circumference-18.25 in (51%)

Olivia is saying all kinds of words and learning more every day! One of her newest is "mine."  She says this most frequently when she is trying to run away with my phone.  She also apparently picked up on me calling her daddy, Nate, which is another one she's been saying a lot. We're trying to encourage her to go back to "da" for that one....  She has also become a very frustratingly picky eater! She eats great when other people are feeding her, but when she's home with me, she seems to think she can do whatever she wants. Little miss Olivia is also quite the social butterfly! She makes friends with every child she meets and doesn't seem nervous about it at all! She does take her time deciding whether she likes adults though. It's funny to me that she will run right up to a small person without hesitation but grown ups need to win her over first.  Since it is finally getting warm here we've been going to the park more often too, which is one of her favorite things! She has mastered the playground and knows exactly how to get up to the biggest slide and loves to go down it over and over and over!
Anyways, I could go on about Olivia for days because she is my pride and joy :) but I'll just leave it at that. She is a very happy and healthy girl and from what I've seen of her playing with my neighbor's baby, she's going to make a fantastic big sister!

P.s. I am almost 14 weeks along in case you like you keep track of these things

We're Gonna Have Another Baby!

We are so excited to announce that there will be another baby Breneman this november! I had my 12 week appointment this morning and since they weren't able to hear the heartbeat this early with just the Doppler, we got to have an ultrasound. I was really surprised to see how calm this baby was on the screen considering how difficult it was for us to see Olivia clearly at this point because she was popping all over the place! Maybe I'll be lucky and get a calm one this time to balance out all of Olivia's energy :)

2 more months and we will find out the gender! I really can't believe I already made it to 12 weeks... I know they say time flies with the second one and I'm really starting to get it. With Olivia, I just couldn't wait for her to get here so I counted down almost every single day. This time I feel like I wouldn't mind so much if he takes his time growing, stay in there, give me more time to prepare, etc... I might be majorly regretting saying that in 5 1/2 more months though haha!

You may have noticed I said "he" back there, that's because I'm calling him a boy until proven otherwise. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part. Nate wants a girl cause he thinks we won't have to buy more stuff that way, silly Nate :)

Anyways, we are very excited and I'll do my best to keep everyone updated on "his" progress!  (Hehe)

Olivia's Surgery

I am a little bit premature in my posting of this blog, but when you have internet access, you take advantage!  I am currently sitting in the waiting room at the hospital while my little tiny baby is off somewhere being put under anesthesia.  I'm sure everything will go splendidly and that there is absolutely nothing to be worried about, but of course it's nerve-wracking to leave your child in the hands of someone you barely know holding a scalpel.

From what I am told, her recovery should be very easy.  Depending on whether or not Dr Shmelzer (yes, his name is Dr Shmelzer, you read it correctly) has to place a pin to correct her thumb positioning, she may or may not even need bandaging.  Without a pin, he will just stitch her up and put some glue over the top to make it waterproof.  If he does have to pin it, he'll bandage her whole hand so she doesn't chew on it. Her pain level is supposed to be pretty low though.  They will give her pain medication for today but by tomorrow he said he'll be surprised if she even needs Tylenol.

And that is all the information that I have for now.  Now we wait....  Surgery will be about an hour.  In the meantime, enjoy some pictures of Olivia from pre-op:

This was the face she made when we told her she was having surgery today...

And this was the face she made when I told her she could have juice today!

All dressed in her ginormous surgery outfit

 I love this girl

2 Months

This post is really really late...  I tried so hard to remember to get some cute pictures of Olivia on her 2 month birthday but it just didn't happen, then I tried to remember to do it when we got back to Utah after Christmas but I just had so much going on with unpacking and getting doctor things taken care of that it just completely slipped my mind.

Nate did take this one picture of her on the 26th during her morning nap

Olivia is just the sweetest baby in the whole world!  She really hasn't been too fussy of a baby and I love that.  She just had her 2 month Doctor visit last week and she's looking great!

New Stats:
Weight - 10 lbs, 6 oz (still the 16th percentile)
Length - 22 in (15th percentile, 10th last time)
Head - 15 in (33rd percentile, huge jump! 6th last time)

She also got a whole bunch of immunizations at this visit too!  She got Hepatitis B, Polio, Pneumococcal Disease, DTaP, Rotavirus, and Hib.  Poor thing got 3 shots and one oral.  She handled them like a trooper though.  She cried when she got poked but after some snuggles she was ok.  We got her some Tylenol like the nurse said and she slept most of the day.  She did seem pretty needy for a couple days though.  She wanted more snuggles than usual and ate less but more frequently.

She has also become a very curious baby, she is always wanting to stand up and see everything around her.  She loves to play with her Daddy in the mornings after breakfast, very smiley and babbles a lot.  Yesterday she discovered her reflection in the mirror.  She sat there smiling and talking to herself, it was so cute!  She started wearing all 0-3 month size, some things are still huge on her though.  She finally outgrew all of her preemie clothes but the newborn size onesies still fit her the best.  She can do a full upper body push up during tummy time now, sometimes she even pushes up so much that her hips go up too.  She is so strong!  Love, love, LOVES taking baths!  It doesn't matter what kind of mood she's in before, she is always happy in the bath, kicking and splashing.

I just can't believe how much she is already growing up and it's only been 2 months!  Bring on the next month!

First Doctor Visit

Olivia had her first Dr. appointment a few days after she got out of the NICU.  Some of the concerns that they had in the NICU were that they thought she wasn't gaining weight fast enough and that her temp was still not quite as warm as they wanted so I was a little concerned going into the appointment.  The doctor definitely put my mind as ease while he was talking to us.  He said that in the NICU they tend to be a little overly cautious and that we really didn't need to be worried about her progression because everything looked just fine to him.  And as for her temperature, he wasn't worried about that either.  He said as long as she's acting normal and doesn't seem sick that her temp would level out all by itself, which it has.

At her appointment she weighed 6 lbs 13 oz, which put her back up to her birth weight and in the 16th percentile.  A week later the doctor wanted us to come in just to do a weight check and at that time she weighed 7 lbs, 11 oz.  She is definitely growing just fine!

Her head circumference was in the 6th percentile, I want to say it was 13.5 in but I can't find the paper so I could be totally wrong about that.  The percentile is correct though.

She was still 19 in, which was her birth length, putting her in the 10th percentile for length.

She is just the sweetest little baby girl and we love her to death!

In the NICU

A few hours after Olivia was born, after she'd just come back from the well-baby nursery for a group B strep test (which was negative), the nurse came to check her vital signs.  The nurse noticed her temperature was just a bit low so she had to go back to the nursery to hang out in the warmer for a bit.  While she was in the nursery getting warmed up, they noticed some irregular breathing, so they called in a neonatologist.  They decided that she had some kind of infection and needed to be on antibiotics so away she went to the NICU.  Unfortunately the only way to give babies antibiotics is by IV and the only place they can do that is in the NICU.  After running what seemed like a million different tests, they decided that she had a pneumonia.  Because I had been on antibiotics during labor, it made it so they weren't able to get a conclusive result on any bacterial cultures.  As frustrating as it was to never get a definite result back to know what kind of infection, they assured us that that was the best news because it meant her infection wasn't too severe.

We didn't really get pictures of each of the 6 days she was in the NICU but here are pictures from her 3rd day in there

Poor thing, she had to have 3-4 IV's, one of which was in her little head.  I know the head is supposed to be one of the better spots for a baby's IV but it's so sad looking!

Our first family photo!  We meant to take one on the first day of her life but with all the commotion, it didn't happen...

And these are the pictures from her last day in the NICU.

This last one is a bit randomly placed but for some reason blogger isn't letting me move it so whatever.  This is right after her first bath, the bows in the NICU are so much cuter than the ones in labor and delivery!  We didn't get one of us giving her the bath cause our hands were full, sorry.  Also, the nurse was really proud of that faux hawk she gave her, I did NOT do that to her hair, let that be on the record.
